Make your own scented festive fire lighters

1 Dec 2022

Delicately scent your home for an instant reminder the holiday season has arrived

Simple yet effective, fill your home with the delightful scent of cloves, cinnamon, and pinecones with your very own festive firelighters. Sure to provoke the feeling of comfort and warmth, these little fire lighters are perfect for your own fireplace or as a little pre-Christmas gift to your family and friends.

What you will need:

Wax melts (these can be scented but unscented is best so you can add your own touch) An old metal pot, glass bowl or wax melting pot Candle wicks Cupcake cases

Added extras:

Scents (you can add oils or powdered cinnamon or nutmeg, vanilla to your wax for a stronger scent) Colouring or crayons (you can add candle dye or crayons for a touch of colour, powdered spices will also adjust the colouring) Aromatic materials including pinecones, cinnamon sticks, cloves, dried orange peel, star anise.

Method:

  1. Place your cupcake cases into a muffin tray and position your wicks and aromatic materials in the cases.
  2. Melt the wax melts (and crayons if you are using them) in a double boiler, do not put directly onto the heat.
  3. Once melted add your scented oils, powders, pastes and/or candle dye.
  4. Pour your melted wax into your cupcake cases, ensuring you cover the materials and part of the wick.
  5. Leave to cool and set.

For a more rustic look and feel…

  1. Cut newspaper into rectangles roughly 40cm x 20cm
  2. Place your aromatic materials in the centre and roll the newspaper around them
  3. Tie the ends of the newspaper with twine so they look like a little cracker
Please do take extra care when working with hot wax and fire places.
