1929

Arch Hume opens A Hume Gentlemen's Outfitter. All suits and jackets are made-to-measure by Arch's team of 5 highly specialised tailors, using the finest tweeds and cloths.

1948

Jock Hume joins his father in the business and by the late 1960s has introduced ready-to-wear collections to the traditional tailoring services.

1982

Archie Hume the third generation joins the business and expands A Hume's brand offering, adding RM Williams, Dubarry and William Lockie.

2007

Karen, Archie's wife joins the business and launches ahume.co.uk - A Hume is now online and reaching people all over the globe.

2012

A Hume opens a new technical wear store in Kelso and introduces new brand Schoffel.

2020

After 91 years at the helm, Archie and Karen Hume sell A Hume to a local family. David Nuttall, Managing Director of William Lockie and his daughter Rachel Thomson continue the A Hume legacy.

2020

The first ever A Hume mail order catalogue lands on doorsteps all over the country. Today, Humes send out three catalogues a year to their customers.

2021

The Covid-19 pandemic sees physical retail forced to close, and A Hume take the opportunity to renovate their technical store and reopen it as a brand new ladies store.

2022

The team are delighted to win the Drapers Multi-Channel Independent of the Year in 2021 and 2022, along with Rising Star of the year for Managing Director, Rachel.

2022

A Hume welcome their very own puppy to the team. Introducing Amble the yellow Labrador. She enjoys helping in the shops and a gravy bone or two!

2023

A Hume rebrands to Humes Outfitters. Taking inspiration from their heritage as a gentlemen's outiftter and showcasing their carefully curated collection of quality brands.

2024

Humes Outfitters heads over the border and opens their first ever shop outwith Kelso in Alnwick, Northumberland.
