Why Cashmere?

Going into the winter months we wanted to offer something that is soft, cosy, luxurious but practical, classic pieces that could quite as easily be worn to an event or for comfortably, snuggling up at home on a winter's night. Cashmere is ideal for layering in those chilly months, or because of it's unparalleled warmth a great autumnal alternative to a coat. Living in Scotland we are proud of the heritage our country has when it comes to producing world renowned cashmere, which made it a simple decision to add it to our Ladies offering.

Cashmere Made At Home - Scotland

When it came to deciding where our cashmere should be made we only had one place in mind...Hawick, The Home of Cashmere. A mere 30 minute drive from the A Hume front door to the factory gates, this meant that not only were we rest assured that our cosy cashmere knits were being made in the best place possible, we could keep a close eye on them too. Knitted on traditional frames that have been renowned for their undeniable knitting structure and quality for hundreds of years, then expertly handcrafted going through over 30 pairs of hands ensuring every detail is perfect.

Introducing the collection - Something for everyone

When it came to designing our cashmere collection, it was important that there was something for everyone. From everyday simple classics like our 1 ply Millie Range to standout jackets like our 4 ply Rosie Cable zip to gorgeous cashmere accessories.

The inspiration behind our colour palette

When choosing our cashmere colours, we were presented with over 100 colours from two of the best British Spinners in the world. Cashmere comes from Cashmere Goats in Inner and Outer Mongolia. The spinners we used use only the best grade A cashmere and no harmful chemicals in their dying process. We selected colours that were soft, subtle and classy (just like our cashmere), from sea foam blues, light lilacs, hazy browns and soft undyed whites to bold pinks, foliage greens and staples black, grey and navy.

Cashmere Care - It's not as scary as some would have you think...

There are a lot of myths and tales to tell out there about shrinking a beloved cashmere in the wash, but it really is far simpler than you would think. In this modern era, the traditional cashmere can now be washed on a wool setting in the washing machine... yes you read that right. Just make sure you have the water cold, at most 25C and on a gentle spin. Lay your items flat to dry away from direct heat or sunlight. DO NOT TUMBLE DRY. Iron on a cool setting. We recommend washing your cashmere after the first 3 wears then after a further 3. After this, wash when required.

Pilling - it's all natural

Another old wives' tale is that all "good quality" cashmere doesn't pill. This is true to a certain extent. Cashmere is a natural fibre, and so with some friction pilling will occur with the loose fibre hairs. Our cashmere is knitted at a high tension, which greatly reduces pilling. The wash and care of your items can also help reduce pilling, so be sure to follow our care guides.

We hope you love our new cashmere collection as much as we do. We are so excited to offer you cashmere that has been knitted so close to our home.
