How to Dress Like a Royal – Country Style

12 Jun 2020
A new era is about to begin. The Coronation of King Charles the III and Queen Camilla sees a new generation of Royals take the helm. And whilst the affair will be anything but low-key and we do enjoy seeing the Royals in all of their grandeur, there is another aspect of the Royal wardrobe we are far more interested in...their country attire. No stranger to country life, the Royal ladies enjoy a whole host of country pursuits on the rural estates, away from the prying eyes of the public and paparazzi. Whether out for a leisurely walk or tending to the horses, country life is thought to be where many of them feel truly at home and as the younger Royals inject a bit of modern flair and put their own stamp to their country attire, we take a look at how you can replicate that Royal country style.

The Late Queen - A True Country Style Icon

Sadly no longer with us The late Queen Elizabeth II will go down in history as a bit of a style icon. Never one to shy away from bright colours on official outings her country style always remained slightly more understated, in keeping with country life and blending in with the unassuming countryside. A keen horsewoman, her country wardrobe always included a bit of equestrian flair, often embracing tweeds, quilted gilets, dainty shirts and knitted cardigans, so often accompanied by her iconic silk scarf style.

The late Queen often enjoyed spending much time at Balmoral in the Scottish Highlands. Here, her and her family would lead a more normal life and enjoy every aspect that the countryside has to offer from picnics by the river to horse riding over the hills.

Princess Anne – Ditching Diamonds for Dubarry

Princess Anne is a self-confessed lover of all thing’s country. The Princess runs her own farm so it is no surprise that she opts for practical and casual country style. She is often seen in her beloved Dubarry boots watching her daughter Zara at horse trials or hard at work in a sturdy country coat. Princess Anne even brings her country style into her official duties, opting for low key tweed coats and suits, embracing earthy colour palettes that resemble the country landscape, equally she is not afraid to dress down, living a true country life isn't always a glamorous affair and Princess Anne can often be seen in a quarter zip sweatshirt.

The Princess of Wales – Trading Fascinators For Fairfax

Even before her introduction to the Royal Family, The Princess of Wales has always had that country fashion flair. A country girl through and through, brought up in a small, rural village in the English countryside, she looks confidently at home in her country attire. Her must-have country pieces include comfortable knits, a waxed jacket, a pair of practical Spanish boots or wellies and tailored coats and jackets more formal occasions. As her time as part of the Royal family continues, it is clear Kate's confidence is growing, and her individual style and taste is becoming more and more apparent, with suede jackets, stylish fedoras (much like in her Vogue cover shoot) and wide legged trousers. Quite often the star of the show, Kate has been applauded for embracing a more casual dress style when out and about and love's a skinny jean paired with a relaxed long sleeve tee or chunky sweater.
